Three of the five top-rated motorcycling roads in the US are in North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Parkway which is a 469 mile scenic federal road runs right through Asheville with beautiful vistas on the way to Mt. Mitchell, the highest point in the Eastern US at 6684 ft. The Cherohala Skyway and Deals Gap are about a two hour ride from Asheville and are considered by many to be on the motorcyclists bucket list.

Bottom line – North Carolina has excellent motorcycling roads with just about every type of two lane heaven only minutes from Asheville:

Both of the last two go through the highest point of the BRP (Richland Balsam) and at a bit over 6000 ft. can be quite chilly (and in the clouds) even in July.
